A Little Bit Of Snow ...

Students in the Mastery phase have the opportunity to participate in a “learn to ski program” through Wasatch Adaptive Sports at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. Heritage qualifies for a scholarship through the Forever Young Foundation (founded by Steve Young) and has the wonderful opportunity to receive lessons, rentals and lift tickets at no cost to us!

Our first day of skiing this season was Tuesday January 24th, 2012. We had five students eligible to
attend. We traveled to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort and met up with our amazing instructors, Steve and Caroline. The sky was blue and the sun was shining as we learned how to walk around in the ski boots, the different parts of a ski, how to get into and out of our skis, how to walk with one ski on, how to glide on the snow, how to turn and how to stop. We were able to ride the Magic Carpet and come down a small hill practicing our gliding and snowplow turns and stops. Some of the students were able to ride the beginner chairlift and take one run down the slightly steeper bunny hill before our lesson was over. We enjoyed an outdoor lunch of delicious sack lunches provided by the kitchen staff at Heritage before returning back to campus. We look forward to getting back up there next Tuesday! Here's hoping we continue to get more snow!
