Michael McLean and the Gala

It's been over a month since Michael McLean was honored at Heritage's Gala, with the Spirit of Heritage Award. Even today, people are still talking about it.

Michael McLean not only received the Spirit of Heritage Award but performed some of his best loved music. As he spoke, sang, played, and in his special way, touched our hearts with his musical message, he honored a couple of Heritage students, CJ and Lloyd.

CJ and Lloyd wrote a rap titled, "Obstacles" about some of the struggles they have encountered and are learning to overcome. Michael said after their performance," CJ and Lloyd, that's an awesome song. As a writer, I know how hard, what you just did, is to do. I've tried to rap and I can't do it. For me it just doesn't work. Your song spoke to my heart. I've had a gospel choir perform my music and as they sang my song I felt joy. I felt like that again tonight when you performed. I'm so happy you are pushing through your obstacles. Your singing tonight has given me a memory, a gift."

For Lloyd and CJ it was a night never to be forgotten. It will long be remembered by the rest of us too.
