Heritage's Campus Dogs

Gumbo
At Heritage, we have seen how youth often respond to animals in a very special way. Animals can be very comforting and rarely ever talk back. Caring for the animals is also very therapeutic (as many animal owners know). In addition to the horses on our campus, we have had a campus dog (when possible).  You may remember our first campus dog, Charlotte.

Recently, we welcomed Max to Heritage. He was our second campus dog.  Max was a black Labradoodle (Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle mix). We had him for a little over a week and in that short time he became a huge part of our campus.  He was loved by everyone on campus and was very happy for the week that he was here. Sadly, Max developed stomach torsion, which is somewhat common in dogs and, unfortunately, is not survivable.

Boo
After a little bit of searching we found a pair of dogs that fit here on campus.  That’s right dogs!  We are the proud owners of two three year-old Labradoodles.  They are half-brothers and the best of friends.

The white dog is Boo.  He is a little chubby, but is a happy dog who loves to play fetch and carries his tennis ball in his mouth everywhere he goes.  The black dog's name is Gumbo.  He is an energetic guy who loves attention from anyone!  These two boys are a big hit on campus and really seem to love their new home. One of the great things about Labradoodles is that they don't shed and are allergy friendly.  Boo and Gumbo keep a regular daily schedule since dogs benefit from structure, too.
